01What a disposable does to a photo

Four decisions, made for you.

Nobody chose the disposable look. It is what fell out of the cheapest possible camera, and it turned out to be what a party actually feels like.

A plastic lens, fixed at f/10: Everything from about a metre to infinity is roughly in focus and nothing is critically sharp. The corners smear. Bright sun is fine; anything else needs the flash.
A flash the size of a fingernail: Hard, frontal, and too close to the lens. Foreheads blow out, eyes go red, the wall behind gets a sharp shadow, and everything past two metres falls into black.
Consumer film, ISO 400 or 800: Fuji Superia or Kodak Gold, the two films the cameras actually shipped with. Superia goes green in the shadows and magenta in the highlights. Gold goes amber everywhere. Both are grainy.
Twenty-seven frames, then the lab: No screen, no delete, no second try. You found out on Monday what you had shot on Saturday, scanned by a machine that guessed the exposure.
